Being Director of Technology at Abundant allows me to take that passion and turn it into a higher purpose: Helping people. My position allows me to help startups and customers in so many ways that are new and different every day. Growing up in Ecuador, I remember my parents always telling me the importance of family, honesty and hard work. I’m now happily married and enjoy watching my 3 children grow up under the same simple but powerful values.
I have loved building a career in the U.S and working in technology for most of my career. I have been blessed with what I call “really cool” experiences — from growing a business that started with 20 people to over $400M in revenues, to using data and technology to solve big problems, to selling a business and ringing the closing bell at NASDAQ. Just as importantly, I love the opportunity to share those experiences once a year when I teach at Northwestern.
At Abundant, I get to continue on this journey of leading businesses to do great things. I work with a team of people who, like me, believe in hard work and sharing their unique life experiences. We all share the goal of building businesses that will leave this world in a better place than when we started. We are a community who believes in creating the world we want to share.
In the moments in between, I enjoy playing bad golf, cooking breakfast and smoking meats.

My wife Michele and I both grew-up and raised our family in Chicago. My first health care job was at a transporter at West Suburban Hospital Medical Center in Oak Park, Illinois. I put myself through college by working in various health care positions and was really drawn to the mission and importance of the industry.
When I graduated from De Paul University, I took a job with Shared Medical Systems where I was a project manager overseeing the installation of various clinical and financial systems at some of the largest health systems in the country. My healthcare career spans 33 years and has afforded me the opportunity to innovation and operate various health care services business.
Prior to my time with Abundant Venture Partners, I was the CEO of Press Ganey. Press Ganey is a transformational healthcare platform utilized by leading health care organizations to improve the experience and quality of care. During my tenure at Press Ganey, we acquired 15 companies, recognized incredible growth, took the company public and facilitated a “take private” in 2019.
At Abundant, I have the opportunity to apply my experiences, business development & operating expertise, and c-suite relationships to help incubate and bring to market new technology and services business capable of improving care and/or reducing costs.
In addition to Abundant Venture Partners, I remain a board member of Press Ganey, serve as vice-chairman of SOC Telemed and sit on the board of the Midwest Chapter of the American Heart Association. My wife and I are also active and support multiple charities in Chicago.

Many years ago, I was fortunate to start my career in healthcare and I remain optimistic and energized by the opportunity for all of us to lead longer, healthier lives. Getting to play my role with companies, clients, and people I trust and respect is a privilege.
For most of my career, I chose sales and sales management positions that taught me about critical parts of care delivery, from radiology and cardiology to surgery and IT. I kept feeling this pull toward digital health and new care and business models. That feeling led me to Healthbox, where I was fortunate to lead business development for consulting, then added marketing and operations, then shared responsibility for strategy and general management. We accomplished a ton in five years and I’m proud of the work we did, our clients, and the impact we had on industry and on patients’ lives.
With Abundant Venture Partners, I work with an amazing team to build on that passion and experience by helping large organizations build and invest in new healthcare companies around shared challenges. I love the partnership with hard working, smart colleagues to make healthcare better.
Outside of work, my wife and I are raising three kids in the Chicago suburbs. We enjoy traveling, almost anything outdoors, and playing (and watching) sports.

Purpose, Passion, Faith - these are the core values which have served as my guide and foundation. Having navigated various industries (healthcare, education, finance, non-profit and entrepreneurship) over the past 15+ years, I am thrilled to have found my home back in healthcare. My exposure to many different opportunities across industries have prepared me for my role at Abundant where I’m encouraged to wear many different hats to support the business and our team as an Office Manager and Executive Assistant.
My journey to Abundant is what I would coin “a sudden miracle.” This opportunity truly found me, and I couldn’t be happier; my role within Abundant resonates with my gifts, skills, purpose, and passions. It feels amazing to be a part of a team that values me while being part of a company culture that embraces and encourages my authenticity – dry humor and bubbly, quirky personality included!

I've been an obstetrician, a dean, a university president, and a CEO of two large healthcare systems - 40 years in leadership roles in healthcare. But I've been a DJ even longer, and I love to take my message from the music. To cite only a few songs, as leaders we need "the courage to change." As we develop digital healthcare we need to give "power to the people." And we need to look at the society around us and ask, "what's going on?"
Too often, we have warm wonderful healthcare providers stuck behind bureaucratic barriers - Star Trek medicine caught in a Fred Flintstone delivery system. At each of the
practices, systems, and universities I've led, I have worked to build a toolkit for an optimistic future. That's what I love about Abundant Ventures. To truly find solutions, we must seek optimism, creativity, teamwork, and transformation. Creativity may be the most important of those. Challenging existing norms to create positive change is what Abundant is all about. I led the first medical school in the country that chose students based on empathy, communication and cultural competence as opposed to memorization, Diverse doctors for the future! The changes Abundant Ventures fosters are exactly that kind of exciting. Or as Eric Clapton sang, every one of us can “Change the World!”

My professional career began twenty-five years ago when I moved to Chicago to work for Arthur Andersen. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work at several outstanding companies and with talented colleagues throughout the Chicagoland business community. Many of these relationships have become lifelong friendships. The collection of these experiences and relationships has allowed me to develop a broad array of financial skills and acumen that span across multiple industries and types of businesses. I’m eager to apply these skills in partnership with my colleagues at Abundant to provide operational expertise to facilitate growth in the companies in which we invest.
I have a deep appreciation for the talented group of individuals at Abundant with whom I share similar values. These values include a passion to grow both personally and professionally through collaboration and kindness while sharing the core belief “that you can still do well by doing good”.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two teenage children. Together, we enjoy cheering on our Chicago sports teams, taking in all the exciting activities our city has to offer, and exploring new travel destinations.

My career has mostly been accidental. I was hired out of college into the Aerospace industry where I spent 15 years learning valuable management skills. I am always appreciative that I had the good fortune of having a great first boss who taught me to 1) show initiative and 2) work hard. And that's what I've been trying to do ever since.
I found my way to healthcare (and entrepreneurship) based on a personal experience associated with the birth of our first son and haven't looked back. I love this industry — it is big, important, and in need of improvement.
Joy for me is found in the people with whom I work — our clients, partners, and colleagues. We created Abundant as a place where people could come to live in their genius and do their best work. I'm very proud of what we have created.

My entire working career has been dedicated to healthcare, initially as a physician and later as an entrepreneur. Further life experiences, including parenting children with complex medical needs and overseeing health insurance benefits for employees, have rounded out my experience. Throughout, I’ve witnessed both the inherent human and societal need for quality healthcare and the enormous headwinds created by divergent financial and social incentives.
Working together to address these complex issues was our formative commitment when Abundant Venture Partners was founded in 2011. Having spent several years as Chief Operating Officer then transitioning to an Operating Partner role to engage more deeply in creation of new ventures, I’ve been fortunate to have a front row seat to healthcare innovation.
Working with the Abundant team, sharing a mission-based orientation, and benefiting from the team’s subject matter expertise has been stimulating, challenging, and incredibly rewarding.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, am a passionate reader, an occasional Peloton rider, and enjoy cocktail hours (preferably not virtually!) with friends.

Adventure over ease, courage over fear, community before self—these values are the common denominators that have allowed me to work with health systems in the midst of massive transformation, start a nonprofit focused on exposing young people to careers in STEM, convert under-used buildings into neighborhood assets, and teach in public schools. Most recently, I’ve been able to collaborate closely with health tech entrepreneurs who aim to change the status quo. While the results are diverse, all of it is in the service of creating positive change for the world in which we live.
Joining Abundant means being part of a tight-knit team of creators who dare to build companies that make our world better. I get to work with brilliant people who not only compel me to grow but who are also unafraid to admit what they don’t know and are willing to roll up their sleeves to find a solution together. I wake up every day and know that the team is committed to working hard to achieve a common goal while being intentional about practicing their stated values.
Outside of work, I like to go hiking, visit art museums, tackle new renovations with my husband, and take too many pictures of my dog.

I grew up in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, my parents emphasized the importance of family above all else. Through their example, I observed how hard work, teamwork, humility, and trust can overcome just about any obstacle. My wife and I aspire to teach these same lessons to our three children as they grow up and chart their own path in life. I started my career in technical support, learning what it meant to be an advocate for the customer. After a few years I moved into product management, chasing my desire to be part of the solution instead of responding to the problems. As a Product Manager I have worked on growing well-established products, launching new products, and turning around failing products. I have experienced the role of a Product Manager in companies both large and small, across several industries, and in varying levels of maturity. As I grew into management and leadership roles, I worked to align the product efforts with the company objectives, ensuring the entire organization is aligned around a common goal and purpose.
At Abundant I have found a group of people on a mission to improve the world. In healthcare, there is no shortage of challenges and I am excited to solve these problems with such a passionate and talented team.
When not at my desk, I enjoy an early morning run, home cooked meals with my family, camping with my kids, podcasts about almost anything, and bourbon on the rocks.

When I began my career in consulting, I landed on a project with a healthcare client by chance. Since then, I never looked back, spending much of the past 4 years helping healthcare systems streamline their operations, optimize revenue performance, and develop strategies to position themselves for success in the future of healthcare. I’m fascinated by the breadth & scale of problems in healthcare and am passionate about trying to solve them.
At Abundant, I get to continue working towards solving critical problems in healthcare by helping build new & innovative companies that improve people’s lives. I’m grateful to work with an incredible team that works hard to achieve our common goals & supports one another in our own growth & development. It’s an incredible feeling to go to work knowing you are making a positive impact with a brilliant and hard-working team beside you.

I reentered the work force after raising three wonderful daughters. I first began working for Abundant in a temporary capacity while working for Advanced Resources. I had not originally intended to return to the workforce full-time. I was so impressed with the positive energy and the sense of shared success at Abundant, I was convinced to join the team full-time. I am responsible for keeping the office and events running smoothly. This is always a pleasure as everyone is appreciative and helpful. Our office is a fun, energizing place to work where a group of talented people are committed to improving our world. I’m very happy to be a member of our fabulous team!
In addition to working as the Office Manager for Abundant Venture Partners, I am an Executive Assistant to President, Leo Brubaker, and an executive assistant for the CEO of Transparent, Brandon Starkoff. I was always intrigued by the legal profession growing up as a child in New York. I began my legal career in 1973 in Baltimore, Maryland, after attending Georgetown University undergrad and law. I relocated to Chicago in 1975, began my practice and moved to Rudnick and Wolfe in 1981. Amidst my vision as Chair, I became one of the principal forces behind the national and international expansion of Rudnick and Wolfe to DLA Piper. Over the last two and half decades, DLA Piper has grown to over 4,500 lawyers in 97 offices and 45 countries.
My passion was always about helping the underprivileged communities and diversity inclusion. I began an extensive pro bono program at DLA Piper and enhanced the culture of corporate social responsibility in the engagement of services to social problems in our communities as well as several global pro bono initiatives. To this day, these programs hold a special place in my heart.
I began my entrepreneurial career after my retirement from DLA Piper in 2017. My focus now is at Abundant Venture Partners, a purpose-based incubator focused on improving the human condition by creating companies that improve Human Wellness, Human Performance and Human Engagement. In my position as Operating Partner, Abundant Venture Partners brings me joy to collaborate with talented and compassionate colleagues who are engaged with the aspiration to generate healthiness to minds and bodies.
In my spare time, I enjoy golfing, skiing and spending quality time with my beautiful wife, two daughters and our collie.

I’ve lived in Illinois my whole life minus the 4 years I ran away to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for college. Missing my family (I’m the youngest of 4) and having my fill of snow, I made my way back to the best city, Chicago. Having had the bulk of my experiences in HR at small (but mighty), growing companies with even smaller teams, I knew I wanted to continue that trend with an important tweak. I wasn’t simply looking for the best opportunity, I also needed to be part of the best culture. Enter Abundant.
I hear how silly this sounds as I say it out loud but it’s the truth — I’m a better person for having worked here. Positive change, shared success — that sentiment permeates through everything we do. It’s really special to know the work you are doing is making a difference and not just on a large scale; our mission is felt all the way down to the daily conversations had with (amazing) teammates. Plus, I get to be my authentic, goofy self and feel completely accepted — I can never leave!
Away from work I turn my attention to running with poor form, eating my way through the city while practicing the art of dinner conversation, and burning off energy entertaining my niece and nephew.

When I first started working at Abundant as an intern, I was amazed by the knowledge and expertise on the Abundant team. Each member brings unique experiences and insights to their work, and I enjoy seeing this knowledge translate into new business ventures.
What impressed me even more than the team’s business acumen, however, was the level of commitment, passion, and collaboration each member of the team brings to their work each day. The spirit of collaboration permeates project work, and each person ensures that what we do is aligned with our core values and vision.
To me, “Positive change. Shared success.” is an outcome of Abundant’s values-driven and people-first approach to venture creation. By bringing together a group of committed individuals passionate about creating change, Abundant shapes ventures that will have a positive impact across the healthcare ecosystem.

I believe there are three things that make any company great. The people, the people and the people.
When founding Abundant, Eric and I set out to create a culture where people could live in their genius to create positive change in the world, and a supportive, collaborative environment where their skills would be nurtured and complimented for shared success.
My greatest joy is using my creative energy to solve problems, learn new things, and to be surrounded by a team of brilliant, hard working people during the process. Abundant is that place for me. And I hope maybe for you as well.
Especially if you are from Ecuador. But even if you are not from Ecuador, you should still check it out. But only if you like smoking meats.

I have always been motivated by the opportunity to drive positive change. Growing up with parents as educators, I’ve seen the value of relentless curiosity, teamwork and selflessness firsthand. I’m proud to work in an environment that fosters this while building businesses to leave the world a better place than we found it.
My journey with Abundant began immediately after graduating from Michigan State University. In my position, I’m responsible for the accounting operations of Abundant while also providing financial support to various portfolio companies. I’m energized by the diversity of projects across the portfolio and grounded by the common values shared within the Abundant family. The opportunity to spend time with inspiring people in and around the portfolio certainly does not hurt either.
My free time is best spent with friends and family. When I’m not visiting Northern Michigan during the summer, I can be found exploring new restaurants in Chicago, reading, or watching the Detroit Lions lose football games.
